Hot Property: Duchovny, Leoni sell Malibu home

Actors David Duchovny and Téa Leoni have sold their Malibu home that had been listed for $12 million on June 1, realty sources said. The selling price or identity of the buyer could not be ascertained.

The listing for the couple's 6,578-square-foot house was withdrawn from the market in mid-June -- which typically happens when a buyer has been hooked for a celebrity-owned property and the listing agent hopes to thwart the public's interest. (Memo to agents: It's an old trick that long ago stopped working.)

It is known that Duchovny and Leoni wanted to be settled back East before their children returned to school in the fall.

As we reported last month, the five-bedroom, four-bathroom house has two swimming pools; one is a regulation lap pool. There is a separate gym, and the 5 1/2 -acre property includes membership in the La Costa Beach Club. Maybe we'll figure out who the new owner is when he/she shows up for a dip?

Meanwhile, Malibu will be bidding farewell to Special Agent Fox Mulder, the role that Duchovny, 47, is best known for playing on TV's "The X-Files" and for which he won a Golden Globe. He re-created the role for this summer's "X-Files" movie and also stars in Showtime's "Californication."

Leoni, 42, starred in "Spanglish" (2004) and "Fun With Dick and Jane" (2005).
